On 24 July 24 2020, to commemorate Maria Montessori's 150th birthday, the Municipality of Macerata named a square (Maria Montessori Piazzale). Since 2014, Montessori courses have been set up in Macerata in two comprehensive state institutions, "E. Fermi" e "E. Mestica". They now have a Children's Home, two Montessori Primary Schools and a Montessori-inspired kindergarten.  Mayor Romani Carancini, the deputy mayor and councilor for Culture and Stefania Monteverde, the school manager Sabina Tombesi and other invited guests attended the opening ceremony.
